Public Education Course Descriptions
Boating in California, Nevada, and Utah can be
a fun and recreational experience for the entire family. Are you
a kayaker, a sailor, a fisherman, a hunter, a cruiser, a wake
boarder, a racer, or a PWC enthusiast? The information in the
classes listed below will help you enjoy these activities
safely. That information may also save your life some day.
The “Basic” courses listed below are, general
classes that will get you started boating safely. There are no
prerequisites, and you do not need to own a boat to take these
classes. Two of these courses, “America’s Boating Course,” and
Boating Skills and Seamanship,” are recognized and approved by
the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA).
That means that other states will recognize the certificate from
this class as meeting their legal requirements. Some insurance
companies also recognize a certificate from a NASBLA-approved
course, and may offer discounts.
The “Specialty and Advanced” courses may be
brief, or extended, depending upon the purpose. Some of them
require a significant effort, but you will be rewarded by
improving your skills as a mariner.
All
courses are taught by U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary instructors who
are qualified in the subject. Student participation and
interaction is encouraged, so you can also learn from other
boater’s experiences |
